Journal 3-24-14

You ever noticed how a person who has never experienced a sin doesn’t know what they are missing? Faith, Savanah, Mia, Hunter, your innocence is on my mind this morning. In Genesis chapter 3 we see the story of how Adam and Eve experienced sin for the first time and what happened to their children and their children’s children and their children’s children’s children. Do you get the picture? Somewhere down the line we are related to Adam and Eve. Their sins still affect the world today. There are great consequences to sin. The effects of sin equal death. Genesis 3:19 says, “by the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
Do you think that if Eve would have known the consequences of a single sin in her life she would have ruined it for all her kin folk for the rest of time? Probably not. Why did she do that then? Because Satan lied to her, he tricked her, he told her Genesis 3:4 “You will not surely die”, “God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil”. So what did Eve do? She noticed that the tree was good and she lusted after it, she had desire to eat of it. Did you notice what I said? “Desire,” what is that? Simply something that you want so bad you can’t stand it! Sin! It can come in the form of sex, drugs, money, material things, and all kinds of things. So we’ve established that sin is deadly and has a great effect on you, the people you love, and even people you don’t know! You ever heard the saying “Prayer changes things”? Well, I’m here to tell you “sin changes things”. One more time, “SIN CHANGES THINGS” forever. One more time, “sin changes things forever”.
When I was young I never realized, because no one beat it into my head, that lying, cheating, lusting, having sex, doing drugs, drinking, stealing, sinning would affect you the way it has. My sin affected you! And your grandchildren and theirs. Are you mad at me for being so selfish? Do you think its o.k. for me to create strife in the lives of your perfect innocent children? Your babies you haven’t had yet and your grandkids? You should be furious with me! I am sorry and hope you can forgive me! I didn’t know! Because I didn’t read, pray, turn from sin, and surround myself with people doing the same.
On to the punch line, Savanah, Faith, Hunter, Mia – Can you take milk and add chocolate to it and get chocolate milk? Yep, all day long. After that can you take the chocolate out of it and get milk again? No, you can’t. Your innocence works the same way. When you let Satan lie to you and create desire in your life, unless you are firmly rooted in Jesus Christ you will give in and sin will get you! It will change you forever, and all the innocent people around you will change as well! Do you want to be responsible for another life? If you know that your sin could kill the happiness, the hopes and dreams of your children, would you still give in? Or would you be strong and resist the devil and his temptations?
The devil will come in the form of cute little boys and girls, classmates, all kinds of cool things! He will use people to taunt us, trick us, and make us believe that if we “do it” just one time it won’t hurt but when you’re faced with that “thing” you know is wrong, I want you to remember – once you do it and give in, it’s done and there is no turning the chocolate milk into white milk again. Your innocence is lost forever, till you return to dust.

Prayer: Father God, I pray into our lives Colossians 2:6-7 “therefore as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and establish in the Faith, just as you are being taught, abounding in thanksgiving”.

Thoughts: I wanted to scare you, to help you to see the importance of doing the right thing always. I think we should fear the effects of sin. The only way I know how to instil that in you is to be aware of it, to keep it real.
