Journal 3-19-14

Proverbs 14:12 – There is a way that seems right to man, but its end is the way to death.
Joshua 1:7 – Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or the left that you may have good success wherever you go.
Ephesians 6:10 – Finally be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might, put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

As I look back on my life, I notice that most of it I’ve only assumed that I was o.k. and pretty much thought that the way I was living was o.k. I think sometimes I thought that just because I wasn’t getting caught or my sins weren’t that bad I was o.k. I remember learning early in life, by watching my parents, what was right and how to live. My parents never really prayed much and didn’t read the Bible much. Looking back I think all the people I was around for the most part were just like me. So why would I think that anything was other than normal? I guess it would make sense to say that if you are surrounded by monkeys all the time, the way they live might seem normal. Likewise, birds of a feather flock together.
I see today that I’ve been missing out on some real “truth” for a long time and I hope that the people reading these posts know that just because everyone else approves doesn’t always make it right in the sight of God. The only way we can know for sure what He wants for our lives is to read, pray, turn from sin, and surround ourselves with people who are doing the same! I hope my 5 children know that in order for them to get clear instruction from God they need to practice the 4 things I’ve mentioned above, because like me, sometimes watching and acting like the monkeys around us will hinder us from what God really wants for our lives. Parents make mistakes too. I love you guys.

Thoughts: Moms and dads, friends and foes, don’t always know what’s best. People can only try and often fall short. Our expectations will become a tool for Satan to use against us because He knows that people will always let us down. I would suggest for everyone to get in the Bible and alone in a closet and talk to God for yourself to find out what He wants of you! Then ask someone who’s got a few more gray hairs than you what they think if you need a bit of conformation. God will never tempt us or let us down. He’s going to keep it real all the time!
