Journal 3-15-14

Luke 14:18 – But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, I have bought a field and I must go out and see it. Please have me excused.
Luke 14:15 – Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God.
Luke 14:23 – Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.

In verses 12-24 in chapter 14 of Luke, we see how people can make excuses for doing God’s work. I’ve picked out 3 verses for you to read but I think it will help if you read the entire parable. What the parable talks about is what we deal with every day. Angela, Savanah, Faith, Zarria, do you guys ever let life get you “occupied” to the point you don’t feel like doing the things God has called you to do? His work? Whatever that may be. I have many times in my life and that’s exactly what Satan wants us to do, “get too busy”. I know it’s very easy for me to talk right now because I have all the time in the world, but how much richer would our lives be if we put God first in everything we do and not let Satan distract us.
There’s really a lot to this parable. It makes me think back on all the times in my life when I’ve been motivated to pursue the things of God and slowly but surely let life get in the way and exposed myself to the things of this world. We should take every opportunity in life to discipline and arrange our lives to that which will benefit the kingdom of God first and not ourselves. This is something I will probably always struggle with because the flesh is powerful and because Satan will use the most ordinary and seemingly healthy things in our lives to fool us and get us off track with Gods real plan for our lives.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help us to stay on track. Give us wisdom to know your plans for our lives and when you show us what it is Lord you want us to do please give us the strength to be diligent in that and not make excuses. Help us to follow through with our commitments and responsibilities for your sake not ours. Amen

Thoughts: We should always go above and beyond for God. Never make excuses for following His directions. He promises good things for us if we are obedient and I believe that He will deliver if we do so. My next new thing is daily reading a daily devotional to all my girls Angela, Zarria, Savanah, Faith, and Mia out of God’s Little Devotional Book for Couples. I don’t know why but God told me to and I think it’s a good idea! All the men in their lives should be doing the same. Ladies, if he’s not good enough to pray and encourage you in the right direction, find another one!
